Argentine Tango Steps

Corridas and Toquecitos

Corridas

Corridas, or “runs” are a series of small, fast steps that can be taken moving forwards, backwards, or sideways. Corridas are also done in Tango and Vals

.

For forward or backwards steps, one of the most important guidelines is to make the fast, syncopated, steps comfortable and stylish. Some suggestions to help achieve this are:

–           Take quick steps half the size of regular steps.

–           Keep your heels down on every step to make sure you are balanced for the next step.

–           As you move your feet, keep good knee and hip alignment in order to be cushioned.

–           Use your core to have dynamic steps that your partner can feel.

–           For lateral steps, roll through your foot on both the step traveling to the side, and on the step in place. Also, Let the natural shift in the hips happen when changing feet.

–           Keep the knees soft.

Toquecitos (little touches or taps)

Toquecitos are adornos or embellishments that work well in Milonga but don’t overdo them. Make sure you tap lightly. Use the ankle muscles so that the movement is the whole foot. Think of using it just before you move, rather than step and tap.
